No amount of > patented smileys can smooth that up, you know :-) Actually, the reason space is an issue right now is that the CDROM medium is becoming more and more constrained compared to the size of megalithic packages such as KDE, Gnome, and TeTeX. We had to trim them substantially for the last release, which makes nobody happy. Switching to bzip allows is to move more stuff onto the first CD. I haven't run the numbers, but my recollection was that the high compression level from zip wasn't too shabby. Maybe someone can run it on our packages collection and give us some real numbers?
