That checks out the ports tree under a workarea named 'head' in your local directory.

  svn co svn://svn.freebsd.org/ports/head/ /usr/ports

...would checkout a workarea under /usr/ports.

Try:

mv /usr/ports /usr/ports_20140611
mv head /usr/ports
cd /usr/ports
svn status
svn up
