Shouldn't tmpdir respect the user's setting for TMPDIR? Just like
tempnam(1), tmpnam(1), and tmpfile(1) do? I mean, I _do_ have /usr/tmp,
and I _do_ specify it in TMPDIR, and I don't like applications wiping out
my relatively small root filesystem, which holds /tmp and /var/tmp. This
isn't a problem (hasn't been) and should stay that way.
