Same thing, probably because:

% ls -l /usr/local/bin/qvlc
lrwxrwxrwx  1 root  wheel  3 27 lut 14:46 /usr/local/bin/qvl= c -> vlc

Even though qvlc is linked to vlc running = qvlc is the same as running
vlc --intf qt4

try removing (and back= ing up if you might want it) ~/.vlc
then running qvlc again.

Debug output looks also strange:

% LANG=3DC qvlc
(...)
[00000001] main libvlc debug: translation test: code is "C"
(...)

% LANG=3Dde_DE.UTF-8 qvlc
(...)
[00000001] main libvlc debug: translation test: code is "en."
(...)

% LANG=3Dfr_FR.UTF-8 qvlc
(...)
[00000001] main libvlc debug: translation test: code is "i."
(...)

% LANG=3Dpl_PL.UTF-8 qvlc
(...)
[00000001] main libvlc debug: translation test: code is "jt=F3w&q= uot;
(...)

There is no such word "jt=F3w" in Polish. Although there is a wor= d "w=F3jt"
(has nothing to do with code). Endianness/Unicode encoding problem?

Running on amd64.
