xfmail also reads IMAP, and it's a pretty darn good X11 based email
package.  You might want to give it a try.

(Yes, I know, according to my headers I'm running pine now.  I'm in the
middle of upgrading to XFree 3.3.1, and I had a sudden urge to read my
email...  Normally I don't use pine. :) )
