I have an external, hardware modem, and I dial into a Win2K box, which uses PAP/CHAP for authentication. Ok, so you set up my ppp.conf to use PAP... and then ppp -background papchap. It dials the number, it does the handshake... then it dies. Checking out ppp.log reveals no errors, except of a strange warning message: "Protocol unknown". I'm going desperate... if I can't make PPP to work, I'll have to switch back to Linux, and I don't want to. I can give more details, eventually ppp.conf and ppp.conf.
