John,

Just because the UART can go that fast does not mean the modem can. There 
is no need to run a 14.4kbs modem at 115200 - there is no way a 14.4kbs 
modem can obtain that sort of transfer rate. Try 56700 or 38400. It is 
quite possible that your modem cannot do 115200.
