I have an NEC Versa V/50 laptop with 16 meg of ram and a Toshiba 250 meg hard drive. I'm attempting to install a minimal FreeBSD system (just the /bin distribution). I have successfully gone through the novice install, and it all seemed to work. I installed the normal boot manager, and used the "work and play with others" option. However, when I reboot, I get the following error: bad disklabel cant find boot.config cant find boot.help Then, I hit enter at the boot: prompt and get the message: Can't find kernel I attempted to boot directly to 0:wd(0,a)kernel and get the same message. I also tried disabeling the IDE drive in the BIOS, but that resulted in the error "No Boot Device". I have not been able to get the machine to boot at all. From the mailing lists, it seems as if the partiion got "clobbered". My question is, what caused this, and what can I do to correct the problem? I realize I will most likely have to reinstall. What should I do to prevent this from happening again? Thank you in advance!
