Many thanks to everybody who responded to my question! The collective
advice included some variety, so I needed to choose my own way through
it. I did so, and my FreeBSD install went smoothly. I am using the
OS/2 boot manager to successfully boot FreeBSD. Cool! (Some of you
extolled the virtues of the FreeBSD boot manager; maybe someday when
I'm more comfortable with FreeBSD, I will try replacing the OS/2 boot
manager with it.)
