It's still not clear to me, what issues you have with jack? If you have figured out the right configuration for your audio interface once, you are done. That's much simpler than figure this out for each audio application separately! Recently jack was added even for firefox (in the ports) as an audio backend. jack_umidi can be used to get jack midi.
