X-BeenThere: freebsd-hackers@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.1 Precedence: list Reply-To: Bob Willcox List-Id: Technical Discussions relating to FreeBSD List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Wed, 08 Sep 2004 14:52:42 -0000 [I apologize for this somewhat off-topic post, but it seemed that someone on this list may have already done this.] I just acquired a Shiva LanRover/4E terminal server and was wanting to use it to connect to several of my FreeBSD systems serial ports for console access to them. I was able to get the thing upgraded and configured but haven't figured out how to get it to work with my FreeBSD system. I am using a standard null modem cable to go between the two, and (believe) I have enabled the LanRover's slot to allow dialout. Here is what the line configurations look like (the FreeBSD system is connected to line 1): LanRover 5.7# show lines Async Lines: Line State Rate/P/Stop/ RA|DCD|DSR|DTR|RTS|CTS|Fr errs| Overruns|PErrs 1 IDLE 9600/N/ 1/ |OFF|OFF|on |on |ON | 0| 0| 0 2 IDLE 9600/N/ 1/ |OFF|OFF|on |on |OFF| 0| 0| 0 3 IDLE 9600/N/ 1/ |OFF|OFF|on |on |OFF| 0| 0| 0 4 IDLE 9600/N/ 1/ |OFF|OFF|on |on |OFF| 0| 0| 0 And here is what happens when I try to connect to it: LanRover 5.7# connect qui-gon Connecting to Serial1 at 9600 BPS. Escape character is CTRL-^ (30). Type the escape character followed by C to get back, or followed by ? to see other options. at which point it simply hangs (no input or output) till I escape out and close the connection. I'm thinking that I may need a different cable wiring vs the null modem cable, but don't really know what to try. Has anyone used one of these things for serial console access? Any suggestions, help or tips would be greatly appreciated.
