I have it on CDROM and all the HAYCOCK> checksums checked out, so the files are readable..... Is it always on bindist.bc and on or various random files? What type of CD-ROM drive? I've got a Mitsumi FX-001D double-speed CD-ROM and FreeBSD handles it randomly (I'll submit the pr when I get a chance to examine the problem in greater depth). By randomly, I mean cat /cdrom/srcdist/srcdist.* starts failing with ``Input/output'' errors starting at a random file. It usually gets through the srcdist.a*'s okay. The console shows ``media changed,'' which is, of course, wrong. Remounting the cdrom sometimes fixes it the problem. A more reliable solution was to extract the files I wanted from the CD-ROM while under MS-DOS then mount the MS-DOS partition under FreeBSD. You might want to try that. --k
