Ariff, you are the man! I've now installed today's latest binary
modules, and I'm happy to report that I can listen to CDs from the VGA
console too, via cdcontrol. I'm seeing hard disk activity while doing
this, I guess it's doing realtime audio extraction to a HD buffer,
isn't it?

Also, audio works flawlessly within KDE. In both console and KDE,
plugging the headphones mutes the laptop's speakers, and unplugging
them restores the speakers.

My 'mixer' output:

Mixer vol is currently set to 75:75
Mixer pcm is currently set to 75:75
Mixer line is currently set to 75:75
Mixer mic is currently set to 0:0
Mixer cd is currently set to 75:75
Mixer rec is currently set to 0:0
Recording source: mic

And my 'dmesg|grep ^pcm':

pcm0: <ATI SB450 High Definition Audio Controller> mem 0xc0000000-0xc0003fff irq 16 at device 20.2 on pci0
pcm0: <HDA Codec: Realtek ALC883>
pcm0: <HDA Driver Revision: 20070317_0042>
pcm0: detached
pcm0: <ATI SB450 High Definition Audio Controller> mem 0xc0000000-0xc0003fff irq 16 at device 20.2 on pci0
pcm0: <HDA Codec: Realtek ALC883>
pcm0: <HDA Driver Revision: 20070320_0043>
pcm0: detached
pcm0: <ATI SB450 High Definition Audio Controller> mem 0xc0000000-0xc0003fff irq 16 at device 20.2 on pci0
pcm0: <HDA Codec: Realtek ALC883>
pcm0: <HDA Driver Revision: 20070327_0044>

Let me know if you need more testing. Thanks again!

Andrew
