Except for 8.x / intel (no kms backported to 8.x), the world has moved onward
and upward.  WITH_NEW_XORG is now the default and cairo 1.12+ is firmly
ensconced in ports now with no looking back.  Since this bug report I have
updated my 8-stable intel gpu box to 9 and newer xorg server - 1.12 and then
later 1.14 - with success.
