Our times are definitely comparable. I was using M=1048576, and being a
bit conservative :-)  Here are two runs from today:

268435456 bytes transferred in 32.948539 secs (8147113 bytes/sec)
268435456 bytes transferred in 33.194596 secs (8086722 bytes/sec)
