Doh!. No need to reply to this one.

My colleague had told me that he'd read all the "help files" which I
interpreted as the Handbook & FAQ. Further conversation revealed he
meant the *.txt files on CD 1. I looked in the FAQ on www.freebsd.org
and found the answer.
