I have a machine (2.2.7) with the following hardware: Controller ahc0 <Adaptec aic7880 Ultra SCSI host adapter> rev 1 int a irq 10 on pci0:6:0 ahc0: aic7880 Wide Channel, SCSI Id=7, 16 SCBs Disks (ahc0:0:0): "IBM DDRS-34560W S97B" type 0 fixed SCSI 2 sd0(ahc0:0:0): Direct-Access 4357MB (8925000 512 byte sectors) (ahc0:1:0): "IBM DDRS-34560W S97B" type 0 fixed SCSI 2 sd1(ahc0:1:0): Direct-Access 4357MB (8925000 512 byte sectors) CD-ROM (ahc0:4:0): "TOSHIBA CD-ROM XM-6201TA 1030" type 5 removable SCSI 2 On bootup I see a message ahc0:A:4: refuses WIDE negotiation. Using 8bit transfers A friend of mine said that the CD-ROM slows down the SCSI bus (and thus the disk I/O). Is this true a) generally b) only if the CD-ROM is active/mounted/used for I/O. If a) I would remove the CD-ROM, as I only use it 1 or 2 times a year anyway and if b) I'd keep it :-))) Thanks \Maex -- SpaceNet GmbH | http://www.Space.Net/ | Yeah, yo mama dresses Research & Development | mailto:maex-sig@Space.Net | you funny and you need Joseph-Dollinger-Bogen 14 | Tel: +49 (89) 32356-0 | a mouse to delete files D-80807 Muenchen | Fax: +49 (89) 32356-299 | To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-scsi" in the body of the message
