Then I finally had to break down & do it anyway & everything works fairly well, but in both KDE & Gnome, they keep trying to find a scsi cd-rom. My 4.5 kernel is almost identical on this desktop as on my laptop which runs 4.3 except for sound & nic's. Gnome on the laptop runs the cd player fine on an atapi cd-rom, but neither Gnome or KDE will run it on the desktop. Atapicd is enabled in my kernel & all scsi stuff is commented out like on the laptop kernel. Whoever responds to this message, can you please email direct to me?
