I haven't been following this thread but when I was in the process of configuring Samba I found "the diagnostics" very helpful : http://www.samba.org/samba/docs/DIAGNOSIS.html The document provides a set of increasingly more complex tests and it certainly highlights where any potential problems may be. As I say I haven't been reading this thread so I'm sorry if you've already covered this. One other thing about the diagnostics - there's one test (I think it's six or seven) that I never got exactly the right answer to but my setup does work.
