I think it goes by the names srx7 in japan and srx77 in the states. this is a picture of it on the sony website anyways http://www.vaio.sony-europe.com/eng/products/notebooks/models/srx51p/content.html anyways, I'm getting it all setup with freebsd on it but I can't seem to find the wireless card. the machine is a little subnotebook with onboard ethernet (found, works) and then wireless (orinoco) and bluetooth. but with wi compiled into the kernel, nothing shows up. I have a feeling that the system can't cope with stuff in the pcmcia slot (and I think the wireless and bluetooth stuff is considered a pcmcia card, even though it's onboard. whats the situation with cardbus? my old vaio (an sr11k) claims to have a cardbus controller (Ricoh RL5C475 PCI-CardBus Bridge), in fact, the same one as on this new vaio (although the new one seems to have 2 controllers, the second being a "TI PCI-1410 PCI-CardBus Bridge". I've plugged my dlink dwl-650 into the new vaio (which works fine with the old one) and also a 3com card. I get informed of the insertion of both cards, but nothing else happens. they aren't recognised and no drivers appear to be loaded. is there anything I can do to get pcmcia or wireless working for this laptop wihtout going to current? I was hoping to try DP2 but it seems to be nowhere in sight (and dp1 crashes on boot of the cd). for anyone else with one of these lappies. I seem to have most of the rest of it working fine. I booted a 4.6.2 cd in the firewire dvd drive. of course that couldn't install off the cd but it did get to sysinstall where I could do a network install. I did need to set these at the boot menu (and later in loader.conf, I thought that sysinstall might have done that for me already but it didn't, without it things act very strangely, the screen stops updating during boot for example) set hw.pcic.irq=0 set hw.pcic.intr_path=1 however, X supports the intel 815 graphics. the onboard ethernet is fxp0, works fine. sound seems to work fine. got the jogdial working as a mouse scroll wheel (although the little "back" button doesn't seem to do anything, also it doesn't generate any data from /dev/jogdial). no firewire or bluetooth obvious as I've got no drivers for them so the firewire dvd/cdrw ain't likely to work in freebsd for a while, but all in good time I imagine. don't think apm works either. doesn't give me any readout's or turn off the machine for me, but afaik it's all acpi. roll on freebsd 5. vaiobat from usr/ports/graphics/picturebook does appear to report battery status correctly though and the setbrightness tool works (well, I can only seem to make it either full bright, or miniumal brightness ) anyways, here's as much info as I can cram into a post :) root@alice:~# pccardc dumpcis Read return -1 bytes (expected 2) pccardc: CIS code read: Cannot allocate memory Read return -1 bytes (expected 10) Configuration data for card in slot 1 2 slots found root@alice:~# cat /boot/loader.conf # -- sysinstall generated deltas -- # userconfig_script_load="YES" hw.pcic.irq=0 hw.pcic.intr_path=1 agp_load="YES" root@alice:~# dmesg Copyright (c) 1992-2002 The FreeBSD Project.
