The way I worked around the libs problem was:
instead of installing through /stand/sysinstall, I installed through
/usr/ports, as that rebuilds the binary using the libs that 4.0 comes with.
So far, everything's worked semi-perfectly (well, bash and samba work
fine..as do the rest of the ports I've installed)
