It isn't that hard to patch -stable to include the driver before you make a new kernel. The location of the patch files is in the archive. Send me a private message if you can't find it. It's quite simple. On the other hand, I don't know of any cases where the DMA driver messed up either, so perhaps we could all get together and make a decision as to whether it is "good" enough to go into -stable yet.
