Programming for the lowest common denomonator (No, I can't spell that):

FreeBSD can run Linux apps no-problem, Linux is too stupid to run
FreeBSD apps. Therefor, by making a Linux version, they cover both
platforms, and know that the smarter people still have access to 
their product.
