I posted about my troubles getting freebsd installed because of a non-working pcmcia card (Netgear 410). So went ahead with an install form a dos partition. I now have 4.0 (minimal) installed but still can't get the network card to operate. Here is a clue from system daemon. When I boot up and get to a login prompt if I wait a few seconds these messages appear: Jun 22 19:04:42 satellite pccardd[46]: driver allocation fialed for \ Toshiba America (3CXM056-BNW) Device not configured. (3CXM056-BNW) Is the model number of my Noteworthy 56K modem Waiting a few more seconds and these appear: ed1 at port 0x240-0x25f irq 11 slot 1 on pccard1 ed1: supplying EUI64: 00:e0:98:ff:fe:72:dd:e3 ed1: address 00:e0:98:72:dd:e3, type Linksys (16 bit) ed1: Starting DAD for fe80:000b::02e0:98ff:fe72:dde3 Jun 22 19:04:53 satellite pccardd[46]: pccardd started ed1: DAD complete for fe80:000b::02e0:98ff:fe72:dde3 - no duplicates found Jun 22 19:04:55 satellite /kernel: ed1: device timeout Jun 22 19:04:58 satellite /kernel: ed1: device timeout I hope there aren't too many typos in there. I went sort of brain dead while copying it by hand. Its hell with no network.. I am mostly concerned about the ethernet (pcmcia) right now and will work on the ppp later. This laptop doesn't really need to get online, but dearly needs to be able to connect to the desk unit.
