Hello,

Yes it is legal to have two subnets on one wire.

As far as making the FreeBSD live on both nets, this is fairly simple.
Select one of the nets as the primary address and bind the ethernet
device to this.  The second net will be an alias on the ethernet device.

As far as acting as a gateway, I would need a bit more detail to anwser this.
