Sorry, the pkg already uses gzip unconditionally. It is portupgrade, that
installs pkg_glob from my example -- and respects COMPRESS_CMD.

Other examples (from my desktop) include:

 * tradcpp
 * OpenSSH-askpass
 * bsdgames
