Occasionally, I need to copy contents of 12 CDROMs (inserted into the changers) to SMBFS-mounted share. It takes about 2.5 hours to complete, that is, about 25 minutes per CD. The CDs are cd9660 data ones, but I think it does not matter much here. When I look at console, I get several of these from kernel: acd6-11: READ_BIG - ILLEGAL REQUEST asc=21 ascq=00 error=04 vm_fault: pager read error, pid 47621 (cp) They are coming from both acd6-11 and acd0-5, with about the same frequency. I've had this problem before, on GA-6OXT motherboard, with [different] ICH ATA66 controller, exactly the same thing. However, changers seem to work just fine. They did so on the GA-6OXT under Windoze NT 4.0, and they do work perfectly under FreeBSD-STABLE, but on AMD/VIA hardware instead of Intel. I don't think I can blame the CD changers for misbehavior. The bug(?) occurs both on STABLE as of prior to Mar 16 (Soren's ATA commit); I've last had it on STABLE as of Dec 6, 2001, and afterwards build. What worries me most, it's that I really don't have an idea whether it's caused by software or hardware failure. >How-To-Repeat: I think I've told you enough in "Description" section already ;-) >Fix: None known to me. If you need any debug info, I think I might get some, however, it's a production box, so I can't stress it real hard and for real long periods of time for experiments.
