it is not the ups which shuts down the system it is the software which
communicates
with the ups and resides on the machine itself.
you should find a ups which has software for freebsd or you should find a
ups
monitoring software first and then buy the ups supported by the
software...
but as far as I may tell there are many different softwares for APC
smartups
series.
see www.exploits.org for an example ups monitoring program
and you may find some other programs in the ports collection
