To answer a question asked offlist:

If subscribed to this FreshPorts service, you will then be notified 
by FreshPorts should any of your port tree commits fail basic sanity 
checking.

To subscribe to FreshPorts sanity testing, create yourself an account 
at www.FreshPorts.org using your FreeBSD email address.  After 
completing your registration, click on the "Committer Opt-in" link 
and follow the directions.
