Yes, backup and restore, however...

There's very little reason why you would need to, FFS defrags
itself as it goes, it has a nifty trick where it will relocate
small chunks at the end of files to larger open spaces where
they can grow, if it detects them as growing.

There are some degenerate cases for FFS, I would search the hackers
or 'fs' FreeBSD mailing lists for examples.
