You might want to try:

    cd /usr/ports/devel/gettext-old
    make && make install
    make clean
    cd /usr/ports/devel/gettext
    make  &&  make install
    make clean

and then try to make whatever other ports you were interested in.

I have no idea what you mean by getting a java resource problem
when you "went in to" /usr/ports/distfiles.
