When I send about 1700 email to the internal mail server, I get the
following messages:

Nov  5 19:09:57 syslogd: /dev/console: Too many open files in system: Too
many open files in system
Nov  5 19:09:58 syslogd: /var/run/utmp: Too many open files in system
Nov  5 19:09:58 /kernel: file: table is full
Nov  5 19:09:54 smtpfwdd[70788]: Couldn't open spool file smtpdKd2971! (Too
many open files in system)
Nov  5 19:09:56 sendmail[70764]: TAA70740: SYSERR(UID66): queuename: Cannot
create "qfTAA70764" in "/var/spool/mqueue" (euid=0): Too many open files in
system
Nov  5 19:09:59 /kernel: file: table is full
Nov  5 19:10:00 syslogd: /dev/ttyv0: Too many open files in system
Nov  5 19:10:00 syslogd: /dev/ttyv0: Too many open files in system
Nov  5 19:10:00 /kernel: file: table is full
Nov  5 19:10:00 syslogd: /var/run/utmp: Too many open files in system

There are 197M swap space and 32M memory in the system. It is a FreeBSD 3.3
stable system. How can I fix this problem?
