People with cards sufficiently old to not be supported by current
X.Org/XFree86 would probably be better off with the vesa driver and
shadowfb instead.

In fact, I don't know what cards are supported natively by 3.3.6 and not
X.Org. The failure of the transition to XFree86 4.0 was largely due to
the nonexistent-to-poor s3virge support, if I remember right, and that
was fixed at least a year ago.
