I believe (but am not entirely sure) that there are currently some issues
with -CURRENT's link-loader.  I've certainly heard of very similar reports
of "weird stuff" happening with regards linking and executing binaries.

Can you check with -current to see if this is an instantion of this issue,
if so, then it's not really a ports issue.
