Subject: broken /sys link

I'm using FreeBSD 2.2.2, and I'm trying to get my PCMCIA modem working
on COM2. When I start up, the kernel finds si0, but si1. So, as per
http://www.freebsd.org/handbook/handbook154.html#372
I tried to reconfigure my kernel. When I try to cd to /sys/i386/conf to
edit GENERICAH, the directory /sys doesn't exist. When I look at /sys
using tkdesk, it tells me that /sys is a broken link. How did it get
broken? How can I fix it? Does it matter?

Thanks,
Joel Gwynn
