LOL.  Perhaps try not working with the exploits would be a start.

You're using a buggy version of pico (bundled with pine 4.02?).  Try using
another version (4.05 and 4.00 seem to be immune) or another editor, as
you've likely corrupted whatever files you were editing.  ee is a good
replacement editor.  If you can't login, you'll probably have to boot into
single user mode to fix it.
