A great read, but indeed unfortunate that this isn't yet described in
the -STABLE case. Hopefully it will be in the near future, your time
allowing.

As an aside, can you tell me how I can fake a faulty drive in a RAID-5
configuration? I'm trying to simulate a disk crash, so as to determine
the correct procedure for reviving a disk if that happens, but my
first attempt to do so went wrong. I tried to simulate a disk crash
by dd'ing /dev/zero over the entire disk (because I also wanted to test
the whole disk), but then vinum wouldn't let me issue the 'rebuildparity'
command. I suspect because the slice and disklabel information was also
gone.
