why i cannot use the whole device ?
slicing it would eat even more disk space, the UFS2 + journal are taking 3GB out of a 40GB disk. Also the journal size still defaults to 1GB ? how can i check these from geom ?

i have put a standard MBR on the disk, isan't that enough ?
