OK, I'll give you that one. I use 16bits here -- I'm not fussed about
having lots of colours.

If you can run one, the results would be intresting. BTW, what
benchmarks are there for benchmarking 2D performances?

Mplayer's X11 output is fast enough for most people. On my 1700+ it
rarely uses more than 10% of the CPU. Anyway Mplayer (and most of the
other video players) do all many of its maths operations using the
MMX/SSE/3DNow! exenstions and lots of processors supports at least one
of these x86 exenstions.
