These represent problem reports covering all versions including experimental development code and obsolete releases. Bugs can be in one of several states: o - open A problem report has been submitted, no sanity checking performed. a - analyzed The problem is understood and a solution is being sought. f - feedback Further work requires additional information from the originator or the community - possibly confirmation of the effectiveness of a proposed solution. p - patched A patch has been committed, but some issues (MFC and / or confirmation from originator) are still open. r - repocopy The resolution of the problem report is dependent on a repocopy operation within the CVS repository which is awaiting completion. s - suspended The problem is not being worked on, due to lack of information or resources. This is a prime candidate for somebody who is looking for a project to do. If the problem cannot be solved at all, it will be closed, rather than suspended. c - closed A problem report is closed when any changes have been integrated, documented, and tested -- or when fixing the problem is abandoned. I found some information about this sysctl MIB in the comments of sys_pipe.c, but I'm not sure if this is usefull: * kern.ipc.maxpipekva - This is a hard limit on the amount of pageable * address space available to us in pipe_map. This value is normally * autotuned, but may also be loader tuned. * * kern.ipc.pipekva - This read-only sysctl tracks the current amount of * memory in use by pipes. * * Based on how large pipekva is relative to maxpipekva, the following * will happen: * * 0% - 50%: * New pipes are given 16K of memory backing, pipes may dynamically * grow to as large as 64K where needed. * 50% - 75%: * New pipes are given 4K (or PAGE_SIZE) of memory backing, * existing pipes may NOT grow. * 75% - 100%: * New pipes are given 4K (or PAGE_SIZE) of memory backing, * existing pipes will be shrunk down to 4K whenever possible. >Release-Note: >Audit-Trail: >Unformatted: From owner-freebsd-doc@FreeBSD.ORG Wed Nov 29 18:50:32 2006 Return-Path: X-Original-To: freebsd-doc@hub.freebsd.org Delivered-To: freebsd-doc@hub.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [69.147.83.52]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 1058416A403 for ; Wed, 29 Nov 2006 18:50:32 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from gnats@FreeBSD.org) Received: from freefall.freebsd.org (freefall.freebsd.org [69.147.83.40]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 52A5343CE7 for ; Wed, 29 Nov 2006 18:50:21 +0000 (GMT) (envelope-from gnats@FreeBSD.org) Received: from freefall.freebsd.org (gnats@localhost [127.0.0.1]) by freefall.freebsd.org (8.13.4/8.13.4) with ESMTP id kATIoOFH059086 for ; Wed, 29 Nov 2006 18:50:24 GMT (envelope-from gnats@freefall.freebsd.org) Received: (from gnats@localhost) by freefall.freebsd.org (8.13.4/8.13.4/Submit) id kATIoN7e059067; Wed, 29 Nov 2006 18:50:23 GMT (envelope-from gnats) Resent-Date: Wed, 29 Nov 2006 18:50:23 GMT Resent-Message-Id: <200611291850.kATIoN7e059067@freefall.freebsd.org> Resent-From: FreeBSD-gnats-submit@FreeBSD.org (GNATS Filer) Resent-To: freebsd-doc@FreeBSD.org Resent-Reply-To: FreeBSD-gnats-submit@FreeBSD.org, "waldeck@gmx.de" Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [69.147.83.52]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 5EA2216A415 for ; Wed, 29 Nov 2006 18:46:43 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from nobody@FreeBSD.org) Received: from www.freebsd.org (www.freebsd.org [69.147.83.33]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 060FE43CAC for ; Wed, 29 Nov 2006 18:46:40 +0000 (GMT) (envelope-from nobody@FreeBSD.org) Received: from www.freebsd.org (localhost [127.0.0.1]) by www.freebsd.org (8.13.1/8.13.1) with ESMTP id kATIkgb2049249 for ; Wed, 29 Nov 2006 18:46:42 GMT (envelope-from nobody@www.freebsd.org) Received: (from nobody@localhost) by www.freebsd.org (8.13.1/8.13.1/Submit) id kATIkglf049248; Wed, 29 Nov 2006 18:46:42 GMT (envelope-from nobody) Message-Id: <200611291846.kATIkglf049248@www.freebsd.org> Date: Wed, 29 Nov 2006 18:46:42 GMT From: "waldeck@gmx.de" To: freebsd-gnats-submit@FreeBSD.org X-Send-Pr-Version: www-3.0 Cc: Subject: docs/106027: man 4 random has a URL as reference - 2nd TRIAL X-BeenThere: freebsd-doc@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.5 Precedence: list List-Id: Documentation project List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Wed, 29 Nov 2006 18:50:32 -0000 >Number: 106027 >Category: docs >Synopsis: man 4 random has a URL as reference - 2nd TRIAL >Confidential: no >Severity: non-critical >Priority: low >Responsible: freebsd-doc >State: open >Quarter: >Keywords: >Date-Required: >Class: doc-bug >Submitter-Id: current-users >Arrival-Date: Wed Nov 29 18:50:20 GMT 2006 >Closed-Date: >Last-Modified: >Originator: waldeck@gmx.de >Release: 7.0-CURRENT-200611 >Organization: >Environment: FreeBSD fbh 7.0-CURRENT-200611 FreeBSD 7.0-CURRENT-200611 root@fb:/usr/src/sys/i386/compile/FB70B01 i386 >Description: Follow up to PR 101564 (http://www.freebsd.org/cgi/query-pr.cgi?pr=docs/101564). > The URL is required to understand the Yarrow protocol, we cannot remove > that eventhough it requires internet access for this. As stated back then it will also not fit in a normally sized manual page, so that is not an option as well. I think we are done best with the current reference to the online paper. Some information from ruslan which i also used in the previous Pr/email: > if you follow it, you'll find the Yarrow paper is quite large, > and cannot probably be fit into a reasonable sized manpage. I think > to understand the meaning of variables you need to know math and well > understand Yarrow theory, which that paper is about. > I think what's there now in our manpage is fine. So i see no other reason then to close this PR at this point. Thanks for taking the time to verify this with Bruce though! This will ensure that each dependency is + recorded and that the port installs *exactly* the features users want. + + + + + <makevar>WRKDIR</makevar> >Release-Note: >Audit-Trail: >Unformatted: From owner-freebsd-doc@FreeBSD.ORG Thu Nov 30 14:12:08 2006 Return-Path: X-Original-To: freebsd-doc@hub.freebsd.org Delivered-To: freebsd-doc@hub.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [69.147.83.52]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 9C98F16A412; Thu, 30 Nov 2006 14:12:08 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from pav@FreeBSD.org) Received: from freefall.freebsd.org (freefall.freebsd.org [69.147.83.40]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 41B4B43CA2; Thu, 30 Nov 2006 14:12:00 +0000 (GMT) (envelope-from pav@FreeBSD.org) Received: from freefall.freebsd.org (pav@localhost [127.0.0.1]) by freefall.freebsd.org (8.13.4/8.13.4) with ESMTP id kAUEC73e076443; Thu, 30 Nov 2006 14:12:08 GMT (envelope-from pav@freefall.freebsd.org) Received: (from pav@localhost) by freefall.freebsd.org (8.13.4/8.13.4/Submit) id kAUEC7r7076439; Thu, 30 Nov 2006 14:12:07 GMT (envelope-from pav) Date: Thu, 30 Nov 2006 14:12:07 GMT From: Pav Lucistnik Message-Id: <200611301412.kAUEC7r7076439@freefall.freebsd.org> To: pav@FreeBSD.org, freebsd-doc@FreeBSD.org, pav@FreeBSD.org Cc: Subject: Re: docs/106065: [Doc update] Auto-detected configure options (follows PR/105868) X-BeenThere: freebsd-doc@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.5 Precedence: list List-Id: Documentation project List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Thu, 30 Nov 2006 14:12:08 -0000 Synopsis: [Doc update] Auto-detected configure options (follows PR/105868) Responsible-Changed-From-To: freebsd-doc->pav Responsible-Changed-By: pav Responsible-Changed-When: Thu Nov 30 14:11:49 UTC 2006 Responsible-Changed-Why: Take; the idea is good but I'd like to rewrite the wording first. http://www.freebsd.org/cgi/query-pr.cgi?pr=106065 From owner-freebsd-doc@FreeBSD.ORG Fri Dec 1 07:42:46 2006 Return-Path: X-Original-To: freebsd-doc@freebsd.org Delivered-To: freebsd-doc@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [69.147.83.52]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id C4B1E16A415 for ; Fri, 1 Dec 2006 07:42:46 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from amarendra.godbole@gmail.com) Received: from py-out-1112.google.com (py-out-1112.google.com [64.233.166.181]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 9F20E43CA3 for ; Fri, 1 Dec 2006 07:42:33 +0000 (GMT) (envelope-from amarendra.godbole@gmail.com) Received: by py-out-1112.google.com with SMTP id f31so1749981pyh for ; Thu, 30 Nov 2006 23:42:45 -0800 (PST) DomainKey-Signature: a=rsa-sha1; q=dns; c=nofws; s=beta; d=gmail.com; h=received:message-id:date:from:to:subject:mime-version:content-type:content-transfer-encoding:content-disposition; b=pXg0NcwgN6wGxxWBqYjf2oNLAyWtkwwxA1CYksoFDKVSKF5/zh19MpEteuw7CwZfbCSe+maotlexDrrg8Fvog8mP+JuVk/p5nqyMhLfhzeDIHibK66rg/b/sgF2G9zhe0umMqzLOOOykWxPSukLKpRo9Hn9wxubisUFuCOyu2xo= Received: by 10.35.49.15 with SMTP id b15mr8095481pyk.1164958965152; Thu, 30 Nov 2006 23:42:45 -0800 (PST) Received: by 10.35.108.7 with HTTP; Thu, 30 Nov 2006 23:42:45 -0800 (PST) Message-ID: <294439d20611302342n31b803c1n91707cfd83fc1421@mail.gmail.com> Date: Fri, 1 Dec 2006 13:12:45 +0530 From: "Amarendra Godbole" To: freebsd-doc@freebsd.org MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=ISO-8859-1; format=flowed Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Content-Disposition: inline Subject: Correction in handbook section "6.3.4 - OpenOffice.org" X-BeenThere: freebsd-doc@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.5 Precedence: list List-Id: Documentation project List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Fri, 01 Dec 2006 07:42:46 -0000 Hi, Handbook section 6.3.4 for OpenOffice.org incorrectly mentions that one should use "pkg_add -r openoffice" to install OpenOffice.org package. Note &man.uhci.4; and &man.ohci.4; drivers are still needed if you want USB 1.X support. + + To make these devices mountable as a normal user, certain steps + have to be taken. First, the devices that are created when a USB + storage device is connected need to be accessible. A solution is to + create a group (e.g. named usb) that users of these devices need to + belong to. This is done with &man.pw.8;. The users in question also + need to be added to that group. This is also done with + &man.pw.8;. Second, when the devices are created, they have to be + accessible by this group. This is accomplished by adding a line for + these devices to &man.devfs.rules.5;; + + + add path 'da*' mode 0660 group usb + + + If you already have SCSI disks in your system, you want to + do this a bit different. E.g., if you already have + disks da0 through da2 + attached to the system, change the line as follows: + + + add path 'da[3-9]*' mode 0660 group usb + + This will exclude the already existing disks from the usb + group. + + + + + Next, the kernel has to be configured to allow regular users to + mount filesystems. The easiest way is to add the following line to + &man.sysctl.conf.5;: + + + vfs.usermount=1 + + Note that this only takes effect after the next + reboot. Alternatively, one can also use &man.sysctl.8; to set this + variable. + + + The final step is to create a directory where the filesystem is + to be mounted.
