killall moused generally works for that purpose... But, generally
speaking, when it works, moused interacts with X quite well.  When
sysinstall works, the post-install config menu has a nice setup and test
feature for moused.  And, of course, XF86Setup (case sensitive) is the
program to run for X configuration, including mouse setup under X.
