Even under Windows -- which is supposed to support hot docking --
this is wise. Strange errors begin to occur if I hot dock my IBM
ThinkPad, or even dock it while suspended. This happens with all
versions of Windows AND with UNIX. It's a shame they can't make this
work.

There's one kind of docking station, however, that probably WILL work:
the kind that attaches via a PCMCIA slot. All the outboard
peripherals just appear and disappear at once.

I understand that some of these are available for Compaqs.
