You need:

device pcm
device sbc0 at isa? 0x200 irq 5

[look at LINT -- I forget the exact line but it's that one you need, there is only one of them in
LINT].

. . . .|Hello,
. . . .|
. . . .|I'm having a hell of a time trying to get FreeBSD-4.2 to compile a
. . . .|new Kernel with SoundBlaster-16 (isa) support.
. . . .|
. . . .|The information at the "handbook" site gave some config options
. . . .|that gave errors as being now deprecated, which leads me to ask
. . . .|for some help.
. . . .|
. . . .|device pcm ?
. . . .|
. . . .|device sbc ?
. . . .|
. . . .|device sbc0 ?
. . . .|
. . . .|At the website http://www.linuxdoc.org/HOWTO/Sound-HOWTO-6.html
. . . .|it mentions the following about the CT-4170
. . . .|
. . . .|###############################
. . . .|
. . . .|6.35 Problems with a SB16 CT4170
. . . .|
. . . .|There seems to be a new type of Soundblaster - it was sold to us
. . . .|as a SB16 - the Model no. on the Card is CT4170. These Beasties
. . . .|only have one DMA channel so when you try to set them up then the
. . . .|kernel will have trouble accessing the 16 bit DMA.
. . . .|
. . . .|The solution is to set the second DMA to 1 so that the card will
. . . .|behave as advertised.
. . . .|
. . . .|################################
. . . .|
. . . .|Any help would be appreciated.
