I just tackled this one. I read the KDE help stuff on kdm, and it helped. I was first using xdm, so I thought that a simple switch in the /etc/ttys file would do it, but it turns out that if you want the fancy background stuff to work, you need to run kdmdesktop in your /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/xdm/Xsetup_0 file. I had modified mine when I was using xdm to run xv to change the background, so I had to remove that line in addition to adding the kdmdesktop line. After that the kdm setting program works as expected. "James A. Mutter" wrote: > This is a fluff-type question I know but does anyone know how to change > the background in KDM?
