You might want to play with OS X for a gentler introduction to Unix. Simply buy a Macintosh, plug it in, and you're running Unix. I've been using it on an iMac for a year and quite enjoy it. I'm not entirely sure if Windows 98 setup will remove non-DOS partitions automatically. To Windows, that's how the FreeBSD portion of the disk will look. You may have to execute fdisk.exe from a DOS command line and follow the menu to re-partition your harddrive. I do know that the Windows 2000 and XP install CD's show your drive partitioning and you have the choice of deleting non-DOS partitions. I'd recommend going with 2000 or XP before 98.
