Subject: can't load kernel 4.0

I have recently installed FreeBSD 4.0 on Compaq
Proliant 1600R. This machine should be booted from
the RAID array (and it does well).

The installation's going very smooth until I reboot
the machine. The BTX Loader starts and read the
loader.conf, but it can not continue loading kernel.
What I've got on the screen is the message "can't load
'/kernel'" and "disk1s1" prompt. What's going on??
Then I list the files on my RAID array, the kernel is
there. Then I try to boot
the kernel with "boot kernel" and it still doesn't
work. I see an error message "don't know how to load
kernel".

Does somebody out there have the experience installing
FreeBSD on the Compaq Proliant?

Any advice, please?

Benedict
