I did recompile the kernel. > It depends where you stopped the boot process. If you stopped it when just ``-'' is displayed in the top left corner of the screen you have to give it the kernel name, e.g. ``/kernel -s''. If you stopped it at the 10-second countdown you just type ``boot -s''. I'm fairly sure I've got the above right, but I can't reboot at the moment to check. If all else fails, once it's come up multi-user ``shutdown now'' will take it down to single-user.
