Looks like it's running to me

Why do you have interfaces enabled in smb.conf?
Unless you have multiple network interfaces you don't need that in your
conf.

I would also add a server string = FreeBSD Samba Server in the smb.conf.
Save changes to smb.conf, kill both nmbd and smbd; verify they are gone,
and then start both of them back up.

Try smbclient again.
