If you won't use the tools, you won't get their benefits. It's worth
the effort to put non-packaged 'ware into package or port form before
installing it, and of course share the result. If you come across
a package or port that misses dependencies, does not uninstall cleanly,
do tell the maintainer. He is (or should be) interested in problems
like this.

Even locally-grown "one of a kind" software should be handled
through some systematic tool, if you are concerned about stray
files and clean uninstallation or upgrading.
