Greetings,

I am having a problem with Gnome of late. None of the Gnome packages
seem to compile on my system any more. I think the core of the problem
has to do with ORBit which fails in the configuration stage. This is
often keeping the other packages from installing. I have recently
installed XFree86 4.2 and often use portupgrade to upgrade the programs
on my machine. I have FreeBSD Stable installed and try to keep it up to
date by remaking world every couple of weeks. I have checked all of the
suggestions given on the installation page for installation failures and
none of the seem to apply to my system. All of the other essential
packages are up to date. Here is what the log file says when the
compile of ORBit fails:

configure:10964: configuring in popt
configure:11031: running /bin/sh './configure' --disable-indent
--prefix=/usr/local --target=i386-unknown-freebsd4.5 'CFLAGS=-O -pipe '
CPPFLAGS=-I/usr/local/include target_alias=i386-unknown-freebsd4.5 CC=cc
--cache-file=/dev/null --srcdir=.
configure:11036: error: /bin/sh './configure' failed for popt

I often also get a message saying that there is a missing header file.
The header file that seems to be missing is "confdefs.h"

Any usggestions?

Thanks for your help.

Sincerely,

Neal
